exam hiatus update

Hey guys! Very quick post here as I’m currently on a study break, but I need to do this. After seeing Elm’s post (and this and this), I realised I needed to sort myself out. I was doing quite well with revision at first, but I have definitely dropped behind during Easter break, so I feel like this is important.
My exams (although there’s not many) start on May 15 and end on May 26, so I won’t be posting until June 2, or maybe May 26 if I can squeeze one out after my last exam. Hopefully I’ll start some form of summer series, but we’ll have to see about that. Over the next six weeks I will not be posting, or reading comments (I mean I don’t get many anyways but oh well), or checking WordPress at all, so please forgive me for that. I’m just going to delete the app I think, but I will be back.
Thanks for reading, even if it probably bored you out of your minds.

review: pride (2014)

Hello guys! How are you all? It’s finally half term and I have never been more excited to sleep. School is just so stressful at the moment, so I thought I would watch a film recommended by my friend, and I did you a little review. I hope you enjoy it!
Pride (2014)

Rating: 9/10

Summary: In 1984, a group of gay and lesbian people realise that they share a common enemy with protesting miners: Margaret Thatcher. They form the LGSM to support miners in a small village in Wales.

One reason you should watch it: It is guaranteed to put you in an amazing mood.

Male character: Joe, aka ‘Bromley’ (played by George MacKay)

Female character: Gwen (played by Menna Trussler), or Sian (played by Jessica Gunning)

Scene: singing in the town hall, or Jonathan showing everyone how to dance

Quote: “Jason, you’re a dick”, and “Dai, your gays have arrived”

Thing in general: Andrew Scott’s Welsh accent
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever loved a film more. My friend has been telling me to watch it since we met, and I’m so bloody glad that she did. When I sat down to watch it, I wasn’t in the best mood I won’t lie, but as soon as it started I was grinning like a five year old – I’ve never smiled so much throughout a film. All the actors are just bloody amazing, and there wasn’t one part that I didn’t enjoy. The one thing I will say is that it is certainly not the most diverse of films [as in I can’t remember anyone who wasn’t white (edit: I rewatched it and I’m pretty sure there just isn’t any non-white cast)], but it didn’t necessarily make it a bad film, it’s just something that should have been improved.
Thanks for reading everyone! I would really recommend watching Pride, especially seeing as it’s based on a true story. I hope you all have a great week.

what to watch: tv shows

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing amazingly. School is finally finished for Easter, and I have never been so glad. I’ve had yet another mock exam for English lit (please kill me before May 22nd), and obviously the only way to deal with that is procrastinating more revision by watching Netflix, so this week I thought I’d share my favourite things to watch when I need to ignore every deadline and important thing that needs doing. All these shows are available on Netflix UK, so you’re in luck if you’ve got it!

Black Mirror (9.9/10)

Basic storyline: each episode is a different storyline completely, so this is kind of redundant.

Favourite episode: White Bear (s2e2)

Holy lord. This shit messes with you. Black Mirror is set in the very near future, and is basically about technology and what it could do, and really how we can be affected by it. If I’m honest, that makes it sound like one of those assemblies where the teachers say “mobile phones have ruined humanity”, but honestly it is unbelievably good.

iZombie (8/10)

Basic storyline: girl gets turned into a zombie, has to work in morgue to get brains, this fucks her up, zombie madness ensues.

Favourite episode: Love & Basketball (s2e5)

I spoke about this in my February favourites, and for good reason. iZombie is the perfect mix of humour, action, gore, and astoundingly attractive people. The fact that Bradley James is in it makes it a million times better too.

Lovesick (9/10)

Basic storyline: dude gets chlamydia, has to tell all his exes that they might have it, retells story of each girl.

Favourite episode: Cressida (s1e3)

Man, I love this show. Each episode is about 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for binge watching in about 2 days (which I certainly didn’t do). It’s got humour, tension, and enough downright stupidity from the lads to hook anyone.

Stranger Things (10/10)

Basic storyline: kid goes missing, another kid has some freaky shit going on, everybody meets and become friends, lights go dodgy.

Favourite episode: Chapter Eight: The Upside Down (s1e8)

Oh how I love Stranger Things. I have a phone case and an obsession, let me say that. If you’ve ever doubted the ability of young actors, you can watch the trailer off this and be re-convinced. And then obviously watch the whole series. In roughly 2 days again. The story is so gripping and so bloody 80’s, which together make for the perfect slightly spooky series.

Sense8 (11/10)

Basic storyline: eight people’s minds are in a cluster, very diverse cast and characters, very attractive cast and characters.

Favourite episode: Happy F*cking New Year (s2e1)

Fuck me, this is my favourite show that has ever existed in the history of planet earth. This is literally eight unbelievably attractive people (nearly all of which I fancy), whose minds are connected, and who basically turn up in each other’s lives, if that makes sense. Even if it does, you should probably watch it anyway. The dancing scenes are bloody good too.

Home Fires (9/10)

Basic storyline: small English village copes with World War Two, lots of shit happens

Favourite episode: Episode 5 (s2e5)

Did I binge watch the first series all in one go in one night? Yes. Did I then proceed to watch the whole of the second in the next day? Yes. Am I unbelievably pissed that there isn’t a third series? Fuck me, yes I am. I love this show so much it hurts. I love Claire and little Noah with all my heart, and have a hatred for Bob hotter than the burning pits of hell (you’ll understand if you watch it).

Scorpion (9/10)

Basic storyline: a group of five nerds, one normal person, a government official, and an extremely smart child save people in a way only a group of absolute fucking nerds could.

Favourite episode: Super Fun Guys (s2e5)

My my my, I also love this show way too much. Happy will forever be my favourite sarcastic character, and Toby will forever be my favourite hat wearing character. Watch for nerds and fun and humour, and just imagine me sat at home laughing to myself whilst attempting French homework.

Ultimate Beastmaster (10/10)

Basic storyline: it’s a trick, there’s no storyline, it’s a game show, unbelievably attractive people from six different countries complete an assault course to try and become… ULTIMATE BEASTMASTER.

Favourite episode: Season One Finale (s1e10)

Terry Crews is a babe, and pretty much the only reason I started watching this. By the cover, I thought it would be some shitty attempt at anime or something, but the moment I saw Terry on that list of names, it was on. Literally everyone on this show is 110% fit af, both athletically and attractively. Warning though: every single American competitor is the most obnoxious and self-confident person the world has ever seen, all at the same time.

Thank for reading! I hope you enjoyed it, and that you found some more shows to watch. Leave a comment and let me know what your favourite shows are!

snow & a show: a recap

Hello everyone! Long time, no see. I’ll apologise now for the lack of posts the past few weeks, but life in general has been quite busy, and I didn’t want to be putting up half-arsed posts for the sake of it.

Anyway, onto the main subject at hand: my busy month. On 17 February, I set off from school for a ski trip to Italy, which was unbelievable. I loved pretty much every second, apart from the first day skiing, where I realised that, strangely enough, I (a person who has never skied before) could not ski lol. The scenery in the area was absolutely gorgeous and I nearly fell over quite a few times purely because I was admiring the view. Obviously I posted as many pictures I could, but here’s a few more, just for a laugh.

Then, the rest of February and the beginning of March was pretty nondescript. Just religious exams and school, but also getting really fucking excited for 17 March (obviously 17 will always be a good date for me). Mainly because I was going to see Dodie bloody Clark on stage in the same room as me, and I was going to meet one of my Internet friends for the first time (she’s lovely btw). Rusty Clanton (my actual babe) was the support act, and was so so so beautiful. He managed to sing all of my favourite songs, and made me fall in love with him even more. Then Dodie came on, and dear lord, if I thought I was in love with Rusty, I was blown the fuck away by Dodie. She opened with Absolutely Smitten, and that was exactly how I felt the whole time. Her voice was just breathtaking, and the way the whole audience harmonised with her was beautiful. Also, Will the violinist is 10/10 (I would make a 6/10 joke, but I couldn’t with such a gorgeous man lol).

I know there wasn’t much to read today, but thanks anyway. Have a lovely day guys!

14 Facts About Me

Hello everyone! How are you all? This week, I had basically 0 motivation so I’m posting this post, which I wrote a few weeks ago as a back up. Obviously that means it might not be quite as interesting as usual (if you can call my posts interesting). Hope that’s alright.

1. I don’t want kids, just because I don’t think I could handle them. I’m fine with kids as long as they aren’t mine, basically.

2. I have a very neutral wardrobe. Mostly blacks, with some greys and navy blues, and the occasional red.

3. I want to have a job in medicine. At the moment, I’m thinking about cardiology? Or maybe just working in A&E.

4. My favourite YouTuber is Dodie Clark, by far. Her voice is so beautiful and she’s just so lovely, and I’m so in love with everything she does. Also her EP Intertwined came out in November, so go and get it because it’s fucking flawless, and this probably sounds like I’m being paid to say this, but honestly I just fucking love her.

5. My favourite songs right now are Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran, Secret For The Mad by dodie, and Lethargy by Bastille (still).

6. My biggest pet peeve is people chewing with their mouth open. The amount of people at school I’ve told to sort themselves out is unreal. GET SOME FUCKING MANNERS MAN.

7. I have a (bad?) habit of cracking my knuckles and my neck all the time, which annoys most of friends.

8. My favourite food is pasta. Like literally any type. Cheesy, tomato, pesto, chicken, lasagne, tagliatelle, spaghetti, penne, tortellini, ravioli – literally any type.

9. Another favourite food of mine is cheese. The amount of cheese I eat in a week is unreal. My favourite type would probably be baked Camembert, but a good bit of Brie would make my day.

10. My favourite Disney film is definitely Tangled, although Frozen is a close second. I just love all the songs, especially I’ve Got A Dream and I See The Light.

11. I’m 5’7″. It is what it is.

12. Favourite TV show has got to be Brooklyn Nine-Nine. If anybody out there knows an irl Jake Peralta, tell him to hmu.

13. My favourite band is Twenty Øne Piløts. Their music has helped me through some tough points, and also Josh is literally one of my favourite humans on this planet.

14. I can play the ukulele. Or I like to say that. I also dabble in piano sometimes. Just because I’m cool.

Thanks for reading guys! Leave a comment down below and tell me what you’re getting up to tomorrow!

School Morning Routine

Hello everyone! How are you? This week, seeing as I’ve been back at school for a while, I thought I’d share my school morning routine.

First of all, I wake up at 6:30am, but stay in bed until about 7:30am (super motivated like). I usually read or go on my phone in that time, or just stare at the ceiling thinking about how much I don’t go to school. Then I go to the bathroom, take my retainer out and brush my teeth.
After that, I go back to my bedroom, open my curtains and either watch YouTube or put on my morning playlist. Then I cleanse my face with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, and use the Simple Vital Vitamin Day Cream. My favourite lip balm at the minute is the Baby Lips Pumpkin Spice, so I apply that too.
I don’t usually have breakfast because it makes me feel a bit queasy on the slightly jolting bus journey I have to endure each day, but on the rare occasions that my mum’s dropping me off, I have Nutella on toast.
Back upstairs, I get dressed for school, do. my makeup, and make sure I have everything in my bag for the day, like homework and my sport kit if I need it.
After that I check my lessons, then head out to the bus stop. Then it’s school. yAy!?!
So that’s my morning routine! I might do an evening routine at some point as well. Anyway, have a lovely day!

Dylann Roof: My Opinions

In case you miraculously haven’t heard of all that’s happened surrounding Dylann Roof, I’ll explain the situation before talking about how I feel.
On June 17 2015, Dylann Roof entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. For an hour, he sat with churchgoers and listened to Reverend Clementa Pinckney talk. Once people began praying, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at 87 year old Susie Jackson. Her 27 year old nephew Tywanza Sanders tried to talk Roof down, and ask why he was attacking people, but Roof only replied with, “I have to do it. You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go”. Nine people were killed that day, and 3 more injured.
Dylann Roof was charged with 9 counts of murder, and 3 counts of attempted murder, and on January 10, was sentenced to the death penalty. There has been a lot of controversy over whether he deserves to die, and I thought I’d share my opinion.
I’ve never really been the biggest fan of capital punishment, because I think it’s just a tad hypocritical to kill people to show killing people is wrong. However, in this case, I believe it’s not exactly a bad idea, because he did plan every last detail of the murder of over 10 people in attempts of “starting a race war”. There are multiple pictures of him posing with Confederate flags, and other racist “memorabilia”, so there is no mistaking this was a hate crime and not just a mass shooting.
Unbelievably, some people are defending him and saying he doesn’t deserve to die. Maybe he doesn’t, but neither did the nine innocent churchgoers he brutally murdered for no reason other his own prejudices. I have seen people talking about how he doesn’t deserve to die because they think he’s attractive?? Sorry, I didn’t realise having socially praised bone structure made you innocent. Now don’t get me wrong, I am fascinated by serial killers, more in the psychological reasons behind it than the actual murders, but fetishising a racist because you think he’s mildly pleasing to look at is fucked up in ways I can’t even think of.
Finally, I just want to say that my thoughts are with all the families of Reverend Clements Pinckney, Susie Jackson, Tywanza Sanders, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Cynthia Hurd, Ethel Lance, Rev. Daniel Simmons, Myra Thompson, and Rev. Depayne Middleton-Doctor. I hope they are all comforted by the decision that has been made.
Thank you for reading this post guys. I hope you’re all doing well.
