Hello, hello, hello, you beautiful lot! Long time, no see (or read?). My exams are finally over, thank god, and I’m finally free to binge as much Netflix as I want. Sorry about not posting last week – Duke of Edinburgh was way too hard to organise. Unbelievably, I managed to survive 3 days walking in 27° heat with a 15kg bag on my back. I’ve returned for good, with a bunch of posts planned throughout summer that I hope you’ll enjoy. Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and actually get to a post.

Bad Gal Lash mascara

This mascara makes my stumpy little lashes look absolutely amazing, which is a first. It gives so much length and volume, and is the blackest mascara I’ve ever used. The only downside is that it isn’t waterproof, so if I wear it on my bottom lashes it smudges really quickly, and smudges around my lash line throughout the school day, so I think I’m definitely going to try the waterproof version (if I ever find some money)!
(Only one beauty favourite as I have been an actual slob for the past month – exams have a slight priority over me actually looking human)

Sense8 season 2

Ho-ly. Fuck. This shit’s good. I rewatched the first series in preparation for it, but they did such a good job of tying things together I probably didn’t need to. If you don’t already know, Sense8 is about 8 people all over the world whose minds are linked together. They drop into each other’s lives to help out and investigate other stuff that’s happening (I won’t reveal too much). I would highly, highly recommend! I was going to say something about how releasing another season in May is not a good idea, but seeing as Netflix are absolutely dickheads, that doesn’t matter anymore, because they’ve fucking cancelled it. So yeah, fuck you, Netflix.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Every review I’ve seen of this film has been amazing, and none of them are lying. It’s got all the humour that the first one has, and a soundtrack just as good (or maybe even better). Baby Groot is the most adorable thing ever, and I cannot get over Drax’s jokes. I would definitely recommend seeing this ASAP!

BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend

This was my first proper festival, and fuck me it was good. When I first heard it was in Hull, I was absolutely over the moon, because nothing ever really comes here, so for this and City Of Culture to happen was amazing. I think I might do a full post on it because there’s way too much to talk about here. The sets for most of the acts are on BBC iPlayer, so go and check those out!
George Ezra

Oh the love of year 7 me. I loved him so much then (as in Wanted On Voyage was the only thing I listened to for a solid 2 months), and I’m so excited for his next album. I think a video popped up in my recommended on YouTube, and then I just fell straight into that hole and started watching covers and his whole VEVO channel and… well you get the picture. My favourite song is Listen To The Man (mainly because of the video, oh my god), but I’d say Cassy’O and Barcelona are close seconds.

This year was the first time I properly watched Eurovision, and thank fuck for that. My friend was extremely excited for it, and subsequently would not stop talking about it, so I thought why the hell not? It is possibly the best time I’ve ever had while home alone. My favourite acts for sure were Moldova, Romania, and Croatia, but that Norway tune is growing on me. I’ve literally got a Eurovision playlist, and a seething rage about Portugal’s (undeserved) win.
Duke of Edinburgh

I genuinely never thought this would be something in my favourites, but here we are. The main reason for this is now I’m moving into silver, and also one of the leaders has missed a fair few meetings, which is great because I have a mild hatred for him. The other leaders seem a lot more relaxed without the dickhead around, and I’m loving it. I’ve finally sorted all my sections for bronze and actually feel like I’ve accomplished something, so yeah, that’s cool.

Okay, thanks for reading guys (if you haven’t all abandoned me after this hiatus lol)! I hope you have an amazing week!

exam hiatus update

Hey guys! Very quick post here as I’m currently on a study break, but I need to do this. After seeing Elm’s post (and this and this), I realised I needed to sort myself out. I was doing quite well with revision at first, but I have definitely dropped behind during Easter break, so I feel like this is important.
My exams (although there’s not many) start on May 15 and end on May 26, so I won’t be posting until June 2, or maybe May 26 if I can squeeze one out after my last exam. Hopefully I’ll start some form of summer series, but we’ll have to see about that. Over the next six weeks I will not be posting, or reading comments (I mean I don’t get many anyways but oh well), or checking WordPress at all, so please forgive me for that. I’m just going to delete the app I think, but I will be back.
Thanks for reading, even if it probably bored you out of your minds.

review: pride (2014)

Hello guys! How are you all? It’s finally half term and I have never been more excited to sleep. School is just so stressful at the moment, so I thought I would watch a film recommended by my friend, and I did you a little review. I hope you enjoy it!
Pride (2014)

Rating: 9/10

Summary: In 1984, a group of gay and lesbian people realise that they share a common enemy with protesting miners: Margaret Thatcher. They form the LGSM to support miners in a small village in Wales.

One reason you should watch it: It is guaranteed to put you in an amazing mood.

Male character: Joe, aka ‘Bromley’ (played by George MacKay)

Female character: Gwen (played by Menna Trussler), or Sian (played by Jessica Gunning)

Scene: singing in the town hall, or Jonathan showing everyone how to dance

Quote: “Jason, you’re a dick”, and “Dai, your gays have arrived”

Thing in general: Andrew Scott’s Welsh accent
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever loved a film more. My friend has been telling me to watch it since we met, and I’m so bloody glad that she did. When I sat down to watch it, I wasn’t in the best mood I won’t lie, but as soon as it started I was grinning like a five year old – I’ve never smiled so much throughout a film. All the actors are just bloody amazing, and there wasn’t one part that I didn’t enjoy. The one thing I will say is that it is certainly not the most diverse of films [as in I can’t remember anyone who wasn’t white (edit: I rewatched it and I’m pretty sure there just isn’t any non-white cast)], but it didn’t necessarily make it a bad film, it’s just something that should have been improved.
Thanks for reading everyone! I would really recommend watching Pride, especially seeing as it’s based on a true story. I hope you all have a great week.

what to watch: tv shows

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing amazingly. School is finally finished for Easter, and I have never been so glad. I’ve had yet another mock exam for English lit (please kill me before May 22nd), and obviously the only way to deal with that is procrastinating more revision by watching Netflix, so this week I thought I’d share my favourite things to watch when I need to ignore every deadline and important thing that needs doing. All these shows are available on Netflix UK, so you’re in luck if you’ve got it!

Black Mirror (9.9/10)

Basic storyline: each episode is a different storyline completely, so this is kind of redundant.

Favourite episode: White Bear (s2e2)

Holy lord. This shit messes with you. Black Mirror is set in the very near future, and is basically about technology and what it could do, and really how we can be affected by it. If I’m honest, that makes it sound like one of those assemblies where the teachers say “mobile phones have ruined humanity”, but honestly it is unbelievably good.

iZombie (8/10)

Basic storyline: girl gets turned into a zombie, has to work in morgue to get brains, this fucks her up, zombie madness ensues.

Favourite episode: Love & Basketball (s2e5)

I spoke about this in my February favourites, and for good reason. iZombie is the perfect mix of humour, action, gore, and astoundingly attractive people. The fact that Bradley James is in it makes it a million times better too.

Lovesick (9/10)

Basic storyline: dude gets chlamydia, has to tell all his exes that they might have it, retells story of each girl.

Favourite episode: Cressida (s1e3)

Man, I love this show. Each episode is about 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for binge watching in about 2 days (which I certainly didn’t do). It’s got humour, tension, and enough downright stupidity from the lads to hook anyone.

Stranger Things (10/10)

Basic storyline: kid goes missing, another kid has some freaky shit going on, everybody meets and become friends, lights go dodgy.

Favourite episode: Chapter Eight: The Upside Down (s1e8)

Oh how I love Stranger Things. I have a phone case and an obsession, let me say that. If you’ve ever doubted the ability of young actors, you can watch the trailer off this and be re-convinced. And then obviously watch the whole series. In roughly 2 days again. The story is so gripping and so bloody 80’s, which together make for the perfect slightly spooky series.

Sense8 (11/10)

Basic storyline: eight people’s minds are in a cluster, very diverse cast and characters, very attractive cast and characters.

Favourite episode: Happy F*cking New Year (s2e1)

Fuck me, this is my favourite show that has ever existed in the history of planet earth. This is literally eight unbelievably attractive people (nearly all of which I fancy), whose minds are connected, and who basically turn up in each other’s lives, if that makes sense. Even if it does, you should probably watch it anyway. The dancing scenes are bloody good too.

Home Fires (9/10)

Basic storyline: small English village copes with World War Two, lots of shit happens

Favourite episode: Episode 5 (s2e5)

Did I binge watch the first series all in one go in one night? Yes. Did I then proceed to watch the whole of the second in the next day? Yes. Am I unbelievably pissed that there isn’t a third series? Fuck me, yes I am. I love this show so much it hurts. I love Claire and little Noah with all my heart, and have a hatred for Bob hotter than the burning pits of hell (you’ll understand if you watch it).

Scorpion (9/10)

Basic storyline: a group of five nerds, one normal person, a government official, and an extremely smart child save people in a way only a group of absolute fucking nerds could.

Favourite episode: Super Fun Guys (s2e5)

My my my, I also love this show way too much. Happy will forever be my favourite sarcastic character, and Toby will forever be my favourite hat wearing character. Watch for nerds and fun and humour, and just imagine me sat at home laughing to myself whilst attempting French homework.

Ultimate Beastmaster (10/10)

Basic storyline: it’s a trick, there’s no storyline, it’s a game show, unbelievably attractive people from six different countries complete an assault course to try and become… ULTIMATE BEASTMASTER.

Favourite episode: Season One Finale (s1e10)

Terry Crews is a babe, and pretty much the only reason I started watching this. By the cover, I thought it would be some shitty attempt at anime or something, but the moment I saw Terry on that list of names, it was on. Literally everyone on this show is 110% fit af, both athletically and attractively. Warning though: every single American competitor is the most obnoxious and self-confident person the world has ever seen, all at the same time.

Thank for reading! I hope you enjoyed it, and that you found some more shows to watch. Leave a comment and let me know what your favourite shows are!

spring makeup

Hello guys! I hope you’re all doing well in this new and slightly sunny weather. I’m so excited for summer, which is unusual because I’m a very wintery person, so I thought I would share my more spring-time makeup look.

The first thing I do when I do my makeup is powder my face with Rimmel Clearing Complexion Powder, because my T-zone gets quite oily throughout the day. I use a medium dense brush and put it on my T-zone, under eyes, and chin.

The next thing I do is to do my eyebrows. During spring, I’ve been going for a more subtle/feathery look, rather than the bold brows I had during winter. I use the Maybelline Brow Satin Pencil Duo, and lightly outline the outer edges of my brows, then fill them in with little strokes. After that, I use a small angled brush with the shade Pebble in Tanya Burr’s Perfect Brows palette, just to make them look more defined.

Next: contour. I go a bit lighter on this too, but spread it more towards my temples and mouth, so I look slightly more tanned than a piece of paper. I use Collection Contour Kit, and a contour brush from New Look. Then I use the sparkly highlight on my cheekbones, browbones, and the tip of my nose. I love this highlighter because it’s got the right amount of sparkle without making me look like a glitter ball.

If I have time/motivation to do any eyeshadow, I use the Barry M Natural Spring Palette. It’s got pinky tones that actually makes my eyes look decent. They’re really easily blendable, and super pigmented too. I finish it off with Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash mascara, for really fluttery lashes.

Lastly, I like to have a natural lip colour, so I use Benetint, or my Rimmel lipstick in Naughty Nude 700. Both of them have got just enough pink in to look like I’ve got stuff on, but not so much that I look like a five year old with their mum’s makeup.

Thanks for reading guys! I hope you enjoyed today’s post. Sorry it’s a day late, my mind was in many places other than my blog, but I’ll be back to regular posting next week.

Also, do you like the new layout? 😉

snow & a show: a recap

Hello everyone! Long time, no see. I’ll apologise now for the lack of posts the past few weeks, but life in general has been quite busy, and I didn’t want to be putting up half-arsed posts for the sake of it.

Anyway, onto the main subject at hand: my busy month. On 17 February, I set off from school for a ski trip to Italy, which was unbelievable. I loved pretty much every second, apart from the first day skiing, where I realised that, strangely enough, I (a person who has never skied before) could not ski lol. The scenery in the area was absolutely gorgeous and I nearly fell over quite a few times purely because I was admiring the view. Obviously I posted as many pictures I could, but here’s a few more, just for a laugh.

Then, the rest of February and the beginning of March was pretty nondescript. Just religious exams and school, but also getting really fucking excited for 17 March (obviously 17 will always be a good date for me). Mainly because I was going to see Dodie bloody Clark on stage in the same room as me, and I was going to meet one of my Internet friends for the first time (she’s lovely btw). Rusty Clanton (my actual babe) was the support act, and was so so so beautiful. He managed to sing all of my favourite songs, and made me fall in love with him even more. Then Dodie came on, and dear lord, if I thought I was in love with Rusty, I was blown the fuck away by Dodie. She opened with Absolutely Smitten, and that was exactly how I felt the whole time. Her voice was just breathtaking, and the way the whole audience harmonised with her was beautiful. Also, Will the violinist is 10/10 (I would make a 6/10 joke, but I couldn’t with such a gorgeous man lol).

I know there wasn’t much to read today, but thanks anyway. Have a lovely day guys!

My Morning Playlist

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a great week. This is a prewritten post because, at the point this is being posted, I should be on a coach on my way to Italy. I’m on a trip with school for the best week so this week’s and next week’s posts will be prewritten. Anyways, this week I thought I would share my morning playlist. I listen to this on shuffle while I’m getting dressed and doing my makeup for school in a morning, and sometimes just when I need to get in a good mood.
